A Baltimore man pleaded guilty to conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise known as “Murdaland Mafia Piru” (MMP) and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, the Maryland U.S. attorney’s office announced Tuesday.

Takuma Tate, 39, also known as “Oop” and “Ook,” was one of 26 alleged MMP gang members and associates charged in the case. MMP controlled the drug trade in large areas of Northwest Baltimore and in Baltimore County and attracted buyers from around the area as well as Western Maryland and neighboring states, a ccording to the attorney’s office.

According to records, the gang was an offshoot of the Bloods and organized like the Italian Mafia. They ran “shops” and distributed heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl and marijuana, among other controlled substances. Members were required to pay dues to the gang; non-members who wished to sell in MMP-controlled territories were forced to pay a “tax” â€" or were targeted by the gang.

Tate is the 13th defendant to plead guilty. According to a plea agreement, Tate will be sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for June 19 at 9:15 a.m.

Tate’s lawyer did not immediately return a request for comment.
