These actions can make the difference between keeping your home or losing it during wildfire season.
The Ventura County Fire Department invites Piru residents to get cut brush and tree branches chipped for free on Saturday as a fire-prevention measure.
A chipper station will be set up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the lot across from the Piru Skate Park, 510 Main St,.
In advance of the June 1 countywide brush-clearance deadline, the department in partnership with the Central Ventura County Fire Safe Council is encouraging local residents to improve wildfire safety by trimming back brush and removing dead branches from trees. This helps create and maintain defensible space around homes, structures and access routes.
Five years later: The Springs Fire left blackened, bare hillsides in a drought. Then the rain started.
